Professional Degree of International Relations Specialist
The Professional Degree of International Relations Specialist is a postgraduate specialization program that aims to train highly qualified experts in the field of international relations, providing the necessary elements for the understanding of the international system and regional phenomena, as well as Chile's foreign relations from a multidisciplinary perspective.
In order to achieve this objective, practical tools will be provided to analyze relevant issues of the international agenda and their implications in the formulation of public policies, with special emphasis on the diversity of existing approaches and the need to develop the learner’s capacity for critical thinking in the study of global problems.
Likewise, the program will provide the necessary instruments for analyzing international affairs. This will allow graduates to professionally perform in government agencies, as well as in international organizations and NGOs at the transnational level and the private sector.
Specific objectives
The educational purpose of the Degree of International Relations Specialist of the University of Chile is that all students may develop the following skills, among others:
- Professionally address issues, problems or challenges of contemporary international relations.
- At the government level, to interpret, design, implement and evaluate different national foreign policy instruments.
- In the private sector, to interpret and evaluate foreign policy instruments from different nations, in order to objectively contribute to decision making on international affairs.
- Manage projects with global reach in different organizations at local, regional, national and international levels, with a sense of ethics and critical thinking, for the benefit of society; as well as conceiving possible scenarios (futurology), in order to guide foreign policy actions.
- Negotiate both in the diplomatic and commercial arena, with representatives of the public and/or private sector.
The Program provides graduates with practical tools to:
- Develop strategic intelligence activities on issues regarding foreign policy, international relations, international trade and international security.
- Design, implement and evaluate sector-based plans, programs and projects related to international cooperation.
- Manage international projects at all levels of the State administration.

Classes will be online from Monday to Friday afternoon time.

Cost
Registration (reference cost 2024): CLP$185.300
Program Fee (annual): 115 UF. Annual amount payable in cash or in up to 10 installments documented by check.

Requirements and Application
Applicants should have one of the following Bachelor's degrees or professional degrees: Lawyer, Public Administrator, Anthropologist, Political Scientist, Agricultural Engineer, Commercial Engineer, Journalist, History and Geography Teacher (certified by a Chilean public university), Philosophy Teacher (certified by a Chilean public university), Sociologist, Translator and Interpreter. In specific cases, the application of students with other degrees will be considered, following an evaluation. In the case of studies carried out abroad, a degree equivalent to the professional degree will also be accepted, whose level, content and length of studies are equivalent to that of a Bachelor's degree of the University of Chile, defined by the Academic Committee of the Program.
Admission request
Applicants should send the following documents:
- Curriculum Vitae.
- Official certificate, issued by a competent authority, of the university professional degree or Bachelor's degree. A certified copy thereof is accepted for the purpose of the application. Regarding foreign students, the certificate must be authenticated with an apostille or visa issued by the Chilean Consulate of the corresponding country. The original certificate will be required to obtain the degree.
- Grade transcripts, including equivalence scales (foreign students), and class ranking.
- Letters of Recommendation.
- Letter explaining why the applicant is interest in participating in this Program (up to 500 words in length).
- The program will consider the level of reading and understanding of the English language.
